Step 1: Hydrate & Prep For Your Halo Braid For Natural Hair
First thing’s first: Let’s Hydrate our hair! We are big fans of the LOC/LCO method. So we start by spraying Sheen. Our hydrating hairspray is perfect for moisturising your hair and helps with detangling.
Next, we apply our moisturising hair cream, Smooth and then lock in our moisture with a couple of pump of our moisture-locking hair oil, Seal.
Editor’s Tip: You can get all the products you need (Sheen, Smooth and Seal) in our Moisture Surge Set.
Step 2: Part & Section Hair
Now, it’s time to part your hair ready to create your halo braid for natural hair. Grab a comb or rattail comb to gently do this. You pick a side or a middle parting – it’s totally up to you, just make sure it’s neat as it’s at the front. Then using your hands, divide the rest of your hair roughly in two.
Step 3: Use Clips & Hairbands to Secure Hair
Grab your Afrocenchix Essential Accessories Pack and use your clips and hairbands to secure your sections of hair.
Step 4: Braid Hair To The Nape Of The Neck
Starting with your first section of hair, take a small section of your hair near your hairline. Divide this section into three equal sections and begin to cornrow/Dutch braid your hair.
You can do this by crossing the 2 outside sections under – not over – the middle section, and then slowly pick up more hair from the sides, to create your halo braid.
Work your way around your head until you’ve plaited all the hair in that section.
Step 5: Repeat On The Other Section
Once you’ve plaited one section, it’s time to do the next! Release the other section of hair and repeat the braiding process we did in step 4. Remember, it’s not a race – so feel free to go slowly.
Step 6: Secure Your Braids
Take the ends of your two plaits, cross them over to create your final halo braid for natural hair style and secure them using hair pins.
Step 7: Pancake Your Braid
Gently loosen and fluff out your braid to give it volume. Feel free to use a little bit of Smooth on your edge and a soft bristle brush to neaten your edges. And you’re done!
