Hello, I'm Rachael Twumasi-Corson, CEO and Founder of Afrocenchix. As a leader my main focus is setting the vision and strategy in line with our core values and ethics. I ensure my team have the resources, motivation and mastery they need to produce excellent results for our customers and community.
Tell us about yourself.
Grew up in North-West London, family from Ghana and the Netherlands. I studied sciences at A-Level, then had a last minute change of heart and did a Law degree at UoB. After founding Afrocenchix after making oils with a friend, I went on to study at the Institute of Trichologists (super specialised dermatology, the science of the scalp and hair) and then did an MSc at UCL in Medical Anthropology. Iβve had dozens of jobs over the years as Iβve built Afrocenchix in the background, but Iβm pleased to say Iβve been full time on Afrocenchix since 2019.
What motivates you?
I suffer from terrible eczema and have a lot of allergies and sensitivities. Thatβs one of the main reasons that Afrocenchix started. I couldnβt find the safe, effective and ethical products I needed for my hair and skin and that drove me to create them myself and share them with others.
Iβm proud of how many families weβve been able to help so far and excited to change the industry so that health and wellbeing come first in cosmetics and personal care.
What makes you the most proud about working at Afrocenchix?
Iβm proud of the team. Seeing everyone develop and surpass our goals over the years has been great!
What is your must-have product in the range?
The full set? Haha, theyβre all essential to me so itβs hard to choose. If I was forcedβ¦ it would be between SheenΒ andΒ Smooth. My hair is just impossible without them, with them I absolutely love my fro!
Give us a few personal details/hobbies.
I love writing fantasy and science-fiction stories. I also love live music and play the guitar and djembe. Otherwise Iβm into nature and tech! So my fave hobbies include VR gaming and looking after my plants (theyβve gotten out of hand since started propagating plants over lockdown!).
Shout out the colleague that you couldnβt make this work without.
I canβt choose one! Special shoutout to Nadia though, she was employee number one as now leads on Operations and Data, I bounce a lot of ideas off of her and always appreciate her insights and feedback.Β
