Hi, I'm Tara Brown, Customer Care & Admin Coordinator at Afrocenchix. I love speaking and interacting with our community. I especially appreciate being able to assist with queries and providing helpful advice.
Tell us about yourself.
I'm a born Trinidadian and am of Indo-Caribbean heritage. My hair is fine and curly and I have become more aware of the care I should have taken with it in my early twenties. I like embracing my curls, although my hair doesn't always feel as enthusiastic as I am, however, since becoming an Afrocenchix chick hair care has become significantly easier!
I started my career as a secondary school teacher but I quickly realised that what I really enjoyed were the relationships that were forged with colleagues, pupils and their families. I eventually left teaching and moved towards B2B and customer facing roles. They say you should play to your strengths – so that's exactly what I did!
What are your hobbies?
In my spare time, I enjoy creating bespoke decor pieces and jewellery out of resin and natural materials (flowers especially). I'm also a big crime documentary buff! I love candles and caffeine and I am kept happy by my simple pursuits.
What inspires you?
"The arc of the moral universe is long but it bends towards justice." MLK Jr - I love this quote, especially with all that is currently going on with the world. It's a reminder to step back and look at the journey of progress not just the current frustrations.
Tell us what motivates you to do what you do here?
Our community! Since moving into my role at Afrocenchix, I have loved every minute of it. I have an amazing team of colleagues and our community are simply incredible. I look forward to seeing just how much I can accomplish with and for our ever expanding Afrocenchix family.
What's your favourite Afrocenchix product and why?
This is a tough one, but my current favourite is Swish (it changes almost weekly depending on my hair needs). I love the light fragrance of Swish and how gentle and light it is. I've recently discovered I've got all sorts of allergies and sensitivities, so it's great knowing I'm using a cleansing shampoo that is free of nasties and kind to my skin.
