The most common reason for uncooperative hair is a serious lack of moisture. While a moisture content of 10% is sufficient for the skin, hair is around 17% water. Achieving healthy hair is impossible without water. Even the best thought out hair regimen will fail to produce results if it isn’t focused on keeping water in the hair. Here are our top five tips on incorporating moisture into your regime:
1) Drink More Water
Health starts on the inside and our bodies are great at letting us know what we need, so drink whenever you are thirsty. The precise amount you need depends on your size and activity levels but the classic estimate of 8 large glasses of water a day is a good place to start.
2) Avoid Coffee and Fizzy Drinks
These drinks can lead to dehydration. For every caffeinated beverage you drink aim to have two cups of water to rebalance your body.
3) Spray Water in Your Hair
Spray your hair liberally morning and night with a water based humectant blend such as Sheen, this ensures that your hair gets the moisture it needs during the week in order to stay healthy and manageable.
4) Seal the Water (Moisture) in Your Hair
Water will evaporate from your hair as easily as it entered it so use an oil such as Seal to lock it in.
5) Invest in a Good Hair Moisturiser
If your hair gets particularly dry use a good water based moisturiser such as Smooth before applying oil to seal in moisture from a water based spritz.
