Using Coconut Oil for Naturally Beautiful Hair

Contribution from Lucy Williams We all love our hair, but even on its best days, a natural look can be tough to manage. Dry or damaged hair can quickly get out of hand, resulting in a texture that’s less-than-ideal. One of the most important things to remember when caring for your hair is that it needs plenty of moisture to keep locks looking sleek. While the beauty market is flush with products that promise lustrous curls, many of these solutions contain toxins that can end up doing more damage to your hair than good. Luckily, there are natural ingredients that can offer intensive, deep moisture treatments for even the dryest hair. Today, coconut oil has gained popularity as a hair care solution for those prone to dryness and breakage. Not only does it smell amazing, but it also offers a whole host of health benefits that will keep both your scalp and your hair looking their best. There are a couple of different ways that you can use coconut oil as a daily beauty treatment. Coconut Oil in Moisturisers Unlike other oils, coconut oil is composed of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). These are easier for hair and skin to absorb than the long-chain triglycerides (LCTs) found in vegetable and seed oils. As such, coconut oil is a great ingredient for a daily moisturiser. Using coconut oil containing moisturisers like Smooth, prevents not only dull-looking locks but also reduces the instance of split ends and dandruff. Coconut Oil in Shampoo Coconut oil has antimicrobial and antifungal properties that help to get rid of agents that can lead to irritation, inflammation, and infection of the scalp. Using an SLS free shampoo containing coconut oil also helps to coat hair in a protective layer as a barrier against damage from the weather and the environment. Coconut Oil as a Conditioner Many women choose to condition their hair using coconut oil or a blend containing coconut oil. Deep conditioning can help to keep hair looking soft, shiny, and healthy, especially for those of us who are prone to dry or brittle hair. Coconut oil is safe, natural, and gentle, even for those of us with sensitivities to stronger ingredients. Using coconut oil helps to nourish and moisturize your hair, leaving it feeling soft and silky day after day. If you have dry or unmanageable hair, you might want to consider swapping harsh hair care products for coconut oil-based products.
