Transition to Spring: Adapting Your Haircare Routine for the Season

Transition to Spring: Adapting Your Haircare Routine for the Season

Written by Keysha Davis

It’s official: we are on the right side of Summer. Spring is in the air, and finally we can shed our layers and embrace the season when the world is brighter, and nature awakens from its winter hibernation.

During this season we can expect our hair’s texture to change. The dryness and brittleness experienced during the winter is likely to be replaced with hair that feels a little oilier and subject to humidity. So, what does that mean for your current hair regimen? Below we offer some curly hair tips on how to switch up your Winter hair routine for a Spring-ready one:

1) Adjust Your Wash Routine

During the winter we tend to wash our hair less frequently because our scalp doesn’t tend to sweat as much during the colder months. Now that Spring is on the horizon it’s time to shampoo your hair more regularly to keep the scalp clean and hair hydrated.

Refresh your routine with following:

Cleanse: Select a shampoo like Afrocenchix Swish Sulphate-Free Shampoo, a gentle sulphate-free shampoo for curly hair that removes grime and build-up without stripping the hair of its natural oils.

Condition: Follow up with Afrocenchix Swirl Silicone-Free Conditioner, a rich and creamy conditioner with superior slip that helps to detangle and rebuild fragile, damaged locks.

2) Swap to Lighter Products

Those heavy creams, butters, and pomades that revived your dry and brittle strands during the winter, can now be stored away. The warmer months calls for lighter products to keep the hair soft, nourished and hydrated.

Here are some of our springtime saviours:

Afrocenchix Smooth Moisturising Hair Cream is a buttery mid-weight moisturising cream that softens the hair allowing for easy styling. To keep dryness at bay, spray a few bursts of

Afrocenchix Sheen Ultra Hydrating Hair Spray every morning. This refreshing, lightweight spray delivers intense hydration to your natural hair immediately upon contact.

3) Schedule a Trim Appointment

It’s quite common to tuck our natural hair away in protective styles like ponytails, braids, extensions and wigs to protect it from the cold, harsh weather. With the arrival of Spring, now is the time to trim your ends and get rid of the straggly, uneven strands accumulated during the winter months. Besides, nothing signals the arrival of Spring than a fresh cut.

4) Ease off the Heat

With the days getting warmer it’s time to ease up on heated appliances like hairdryers and straighteners and instead embrace air drying and wearing your hair out. Spring offers the perfect climate for styles like twist outs, braid outs and double stranded twists.

Product recommendation: Afrocenchix Nourishing Twisting Butter is impeccable for sealing ends and providing a crunch-free hold for double stranded twists and braid outs.

5) Give Your Curls/Coils a Reboot Treatment

Just like we have the urge to deep clean our homes when Spring arrives, your hair will benefit from a deep cleanse as well. Winter has a tendency to strip the hair of moisture and elasticity, so to restore it to a healthy balance a deep conditioning treatment will offer a wealth of benefits.

Product recommendation: Use a conditioner with a high composition of natural nourishing ingredients such as Afrocenchix Swirl Silicone-Free Conditioner , which is blended with avocado oil, coconut extract and olive oil. Apply the conditioner to your curls/coils, place a shower cap on your head and allow the ingredients to penetrate for around 30 minutes.

Spring is a time of growth and renewal – and your hair deserves the same care. By trimming away the old, switching to lighter products, and embracing breathable styles, your curls and coils will thrive this season. Explore Afrocenchix’s full range of premium natural haircare products now.
