Want longer hair? You may have unknowingly committed to new year resolutions that will help on your healthy hair journey.
Hair grows an average of half an inch a month, that's 6 inches a year. Genetic, environmental and hormonal factors all have an impact so some people find their hair grows faster, some more slowly.
Hair growth is about what we put into our bodies, genetic factors and how well we maintain the growth. A large part of that is down to our daily choices. So what are the resolutions that can help healthy hair growth?
1. Signing Up to the Gym
Gym membership sign ups spike in January. Did you know that working up a sweat can increase blood flow and help your hair to grow?
If you're not sure how to wear your hair in the gym you can try these 4 protective styles for working out. You can get mini natural products to take along, as well as a mini guide in The Travel Set.
2. Exercising Self Care
Making time for yourself can help you to live a balanced lifestyle and reduce your stress levels. What does this have to do with hair? Well the stress hormone cortisol negatively impacts hair growth and can even lead to excess hair shedding leading to thin hair with bald patches.
Try having a bath, getting a massage, watching a film with your girls or going on a walk in the countryside. The less stressed you are, the better your hair will grow.
3. Eating Better
A varied diet with more nutrients will mean that your scalp has the materials needed to produce quality hair.
A lack of protein and nutrients often leads to hair that is dull, brittle, dry and prone to breakage. Eating lots of fruits, veggies and nuts daily will ensure you get the goodness your body needs to thrive. If you need some ideas try our vitamin dense smoothie recipe.
4. Spending More Time with Your Family
Again less stress is best! Spending time with family is a great way to de-stress and enjoy some fun and laughter. That may mean logging off from your computer, staying away from your phone or making it a rule to leave work on time. Stress is terrible for hair growth and general health so the more you can do to keep it at bay, the better.
5. Drinking More Water
Hydration is key to healthy hair and drinking more water is one of the best things to do to achieve moisturised hair. At least 8 glasses of water a day will help you to feel healthier, more refreshed and less tired so we can't recommend it enough!
