Afrocenchix selected for Backstage London accelerator alongside 4 Black Owned Businesses

We're pleased to announce that Afrocenchix is among the first 25 companies backed by Backstage Capital’s new global accelerator program! We're honoured to be in the inaugural cohort with fellow black-owned businesses Gal-dem, Trim-It, Tambua Health and Vitae London who are all doing amazing things.

We've spoken before about how little venture capital is invested in women and founders of colour, and how this means that brands catering to people like you can struggle to deliver quality products and services at scale. Arlan Hamilton, the founder of Backstage Capital, sees this imbalance as an opportunity and we're thrilled to be a part of this shift towards economic empowerment of underestimated founders.

Over 1800 companies applied and only 5 were chosen across 4 cities. The accelerator programme will help us to grow and bring you even better service and an expanded product range.

Gal-dem is a media company for and by women and non-binary people of colour started by Liv Little. You may remember them from their 2018 takeover of The Guardian Weekend.

Tambua Health was founded by Kenyan duo Lewis Wanjohi and Daniel Warui to turn any smartphone into a powerful, non-invasive screening tool that helps diagnose Lower Respiratory Tract Infections in Africa.
