Joycelyn's epic jump captures how we feel right now.
Last night, we won the WeWork Creator Awards! A very pregnant Rachael (you can spot her and the bump in red) pitched to Vanessa Kingori (publishing director at British Vogue), Ashton Kutcher (actor and investor), Jonas Templestein (co-founder of Monzo) and Michelle Kennedy (co-founder and CEO of Peanut) and we were awarded £275k to help us scale up! We can't possibly describe how much this means to us.
We're super excited to be able to grow our company so we can help more women to embrace and look after their natural hair. It's important to us that women are equipped with the knowledge they need to know that, regardless of the texture, good hair is healthy hair and that afro hair is not unprofessional, unmanageable or unattractive.
We believe black women should have easy access to safe and effective hair products without it being a big deal and we'll be working very hard to ensure this becomes reality. Getting into Whole Foods was the first step but we still have a long way to go! For far too long, products aimed at black women have been highly toxic and have been linked to cancer, infertility, and obesity.
As we grow, we aim to hire more black women in STEM roles and build legacy within our community.
Thank you to WeWork for giving us the opportunity!
We're so grateful for the support of our community. We'll be doing more events next year and we're excited about what's to come. Watch this space! Sign up to our newsletter to keep up to date.
