Previous Trainees say:

"I really enjoyed working for Afrocenchix as it gave me a great insight into what it’s like to build and run a small business. It showed me that it’s hard work, but incredibly rewarding being able to help people care for their hair healthily!

I think this role is great if you want to learn new skills and take on responsibilities. Each day is different, so you will continue to learn something new every day. I felt supported by Rachael and Joycelyn but I was also given the opportunity to use my own initiative and work with minimal supervision. As it’s such a small team, what you do really does make a difference. I felt proud of everything the team achieved during my time there and of my role in it, and I continue to cheer on Afrocenchix now I’ve left!"

Esther Bryan

UCL/Université Lumière Lyon-II, Modern Language (French & German) BA Graduate | 2016 12 Week Intern

"Working with Afrocenchix was great! Rachael and Joycelyn gave me so much responsibility and freedom to make the most of my internship. I was able to develop the skills that I wanted to for example increasing the brand's presence on social media, and I was also about to learn something new i.e. packing and labelling products ready for distribution.

I was a part of many exciting events like Afropunk and Love Natural Love You. Both events helped me to be more confident and were a great opportunity to show the public what an amazing brand Afrocenchix is.  The internship as a whole was a great experience, one that I thoroughly enjoyed and it was a blessing to work with such driven women and their incredible brand that is set to continue to break many records in the black hair industry!"

Ehi Edevbalo-Ehizode

University of Kent/University of California Santa Cruz, Physics MPhys Graduate | 2017 8 Week Trainee

"I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Afrocenchix team over the summer. It felt great to be surrounded and supported by women who place great importance in adding value to our community. The team is supportive and keen to help with personal development and mentoring.

For someone whose knowledge on the cosmetics industry was mainly theoretical, it was nice for me to get to apply it in practice and also learn more about what really goes into running a hair care brand. I gained more knowledge on formulating larger scale batches, filling and labelling in-house. This would be a great experience for someone who is interested in afro hair care, social media and science and most importantly - who is passionate about adding something to our community!"

Yolanda Grunewald
