5 Easy Tips To Make Your Hair Routine More Eco-friendly

Wondering how to make your hair routine more eco-friendly? Let’s be honest, many of us would love to reduce our impact on the environment but most of us don’t know where to start. That’s why we’ve pulled together our top five easy tips for making your hair routine more eco-friendly.

Ditch The Heat

Avoiding heat on your hair or reducing how much you use on your hair will help your tresses and also make your hair routine more eco.

Why give up straighteners and your hairdryer? You could be saving money and lowering your carbon footprint as the less power we use, the less fossil fuels are being used to generate electricity.

In fact, if you put down your hairdryer you’d save approximately £13 over a period of 12 months on your energy bill and save around 26.8kg of carbon from being released into our atmosphere – nice!

Why not use our microfibre towel turban to dry your hair instead? It’s gentle and also hassle-free. And if you’re looking to stretch your hair, why not try some beautiful Bantu knots?

Assess The Frequency Of You Washing Your Hair

Did you know if 1 in 4 people in the UK washed their hair once less per week, we could save 98,000 tonnes of carbon in a year? Which is the same as planting 16 million trees (Source: Carbon Trust)!

So look at the frequency of you washing your hair, we recommend cleansing your hair and scalp every 7-10 days with a mild sulphate-free shampoo, like Swish. And think about other ways you can save water such as shortening your shower time and turning the tap off when you brush your teeth.

Stop Using Toxic Products

Lots of mainstream products use words like natural or organic in their product names, but their ingredients often still contain toxins and the vast majority linked to disease.

Now is the time to really take stock of your products, read the ingredient lists and find brands that you can truly trust. At Afrocenchix, we’ve always taken the time to make sure our vegan-friendly products are safe, effective and simple. Want to know more?
